    About this role

Armstrong Transport Group (ATG) is a third-party logistics provider headquartered in Charlotte, NC. Founded in 2006, ATG has grown into a nationwide organization with more than 150 agent offices and 1,000 logistics professionals serving customers across the country.

We are looking for an LTL Operations Specialist to join our growing Less-Than-Truckload team. This role will serve as a key resource for ATG agents, customers, carriers, and internal teams by providing operational support throughout the lifecycle of LTL shipments.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, customer-focused, comfortable working in a fast-paced transportation environment, and able to problem-solve through complex shipment issues. This individual will manage LTL operations for a dedicated group of offices while also supporting broader initiatives across ATG's growing LTL platform.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage day-to-day LTL operations for a dedicated group of ATG offices and customers.
    • Serve as a knowledgeable resource for LTL systems, processes, carrier requirements, and operational best practices.
    • Monitor shipments and proactively assist with delayed, damaged, missing, or misrouted freight.
    • Coordinate pickup and delivery appointments with customers, carriers, and receiving locations.
    • Research and communicate carrier rules tariffs, accessorial requirements, service limitations, and applicable fees.
    • Assist with freight classification, NMFC-related questions, shipment dimensions, and other information required to accurately quote and move LTL freight.
    • Support billing discrepancies, carrier invoice issues, disputes, claims, and shipment-related escalations.
    • Communicate directly with carriers to resolve operational and service-related issues.
    • Maintain accurate shipment records, notes, documentation, and follow-up activity.
    • Identify recurring service or process issues and work with internal teams to improve the customer and agent experience.
    • Partner closely with ATG LTL, billing, claims, and operations teams.
    • Help educate agents and internal teams on LTL processes, carrier requirements, and best practices.
    • Provide a high level of responsiveness and customer service while managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

    Requirements

    • Transportation or logistics experience required, preferably within LTL transportation, freight brokerage, carrier operations, or customer service.
    • Strong customer service, communication, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to manage multiple shipments, issues, and priorities simultaneously.
    • Strong attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
    • Ability to research issues, identify solutions, and take ownership through resolution.
    • Comfortable communicating with customers, carriers, agents, and internal teams.
    • Proficiency with transportation management systems and standard business applications.
    • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
    • Position may be based in Atlanta, Charlotte, or Chicago, with remote candidates considered.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • 2-3+ years of professional transportation, logistics, or related experience.
    • Previous LTL transportation experience strongly preferred.
    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant professional experience.
    • Experience with freight billing, carrier invoice discrepancies, claims, or transportation disputes.
    • Familiarity with freight classification, NMFC, carrier rules tariffs, and LTL accessorial charges.
    • Strong professional written and verbal communication skills.
    • Demonstrated critical-thinking and analytical abilities.

    What Success Looks Like

A successful LTL Operations Specialist becomes a trusted resource for the offices and customers they support. You will take ownership of issues, communicate proactively, resolve problems quickly, and help make it easier for ATG teams to grow and retain LTL business.
